LIVE: Public inquiry into AUKUS announced at Parliament House. Tim Tufuga overview of Pillar Two AUKUS Treaty. The Virginia Class SSN procurement.
The Submarine procurement initiative is a necessary National Security priority. Already, Australia has initiated their own problem solving initiative with the Ghost Shark The Australian joint venture with the American Anduril industries, (Extra Large Autonomous Underwater Vehicle), at present to allow Australia to monitor, through ISR sensors, potential external undersea threats to Australia's soveriegn borders. This would include monitoring underwater telecommunication internet cables, oil and gas pipelines etc, Border Security concerns throughout Australian Territories.
AUKUS Pillar Two covers the Submarine procurement which presently continues to be fluid with moving the goal posts from new Flights of the Virginia Class SSNs to used SSNs with the expected handing over of the USS Vermont and the USS Minnesota by 2030. Australia will be given a technological leap into the nuclear age with a direct insight to Submarine nuclear reactor technology as a precursor for an indigenous future Australian SSNs, not dissimilar to the Chinese technological indigenisation from Russian and from the HMAS Melbourne Aircraft Carrier for the Chinese Arrested Cables for their Liannong, then the Shandong Aircraft Carriers.
The Virginia Class SSNs to be given to Australia will also introduce Australia to move on from Middle Power power projection to higher tier Military technological self awareness. AI technology has already given Australia the Ghost Bat and now the Ghost Shark. Australia will not rely on the most expensive submarine program to keep up with the military Joneses, Australian AI military technological knowledge is state of the art and progressive and will lead to a reduction in military costs in the long term as Nanotechnology introduce shrinkages in AI machinary. From Directed Energy weapon systems, to AI Ghost Sharks of differing dimensions as force multipliers for the Australian warfighting capabilities leading into the next century.
China, unfortunately, are well ahead in all levels of the military industrial complex. Australia is not doing the catch up, its doing what is necessary to deter likely threats to Australian National Security since, as a Middle Power Nation, Australia does not deter any larger regional military power within South East Asia and certainly does not present any deterrence against the Chinese and their South China Sea A2D2 Area denial systems presently.
The AUKUS Pillar Two is still regarding as holding on for dear life onto the Anglocentric Colonial nostalgia that has been long gone since the fall of Singapore in 1942. The Asians have viewed AUKUS with regional cringe and derision for the Anglocentric and Eurocentria Anglo Celtic Australian frustratingly isolated in the South Pacific and would join Eurovision to connect with Europe and Britain whilst remaining in Oceania. Pacific Islander locals enjoy the AUKUS cringeworthy military alliance only because of the BRITISH side of the Alliance since that is not a Pacific Island or Pacific region Nation. Admittedly, we all speak English and enjoy the Westminster Parliamentary system of Government and the merits of the Magna Carta and English Common law to arbitrate good governance. But, like the Americans, 250 years ago, its time the Pacific Region became self determined. Even Britain have regretted BRIXET, realising that the British Empire was found wanting in helping the British economy and military security. Australia does not need Britain and the UK part of AUKUS seems very antiquated and irrelevant within the next century.
