Binkov's Reconnaisance on the Chinese Type 003A and the Type 004 Aircraft Carriers under construction, on January 2026. Tim Tufuga


Binkov has conducted their reconnaisance of the current progress of the construction of the Chinese Fourth and Fifth Aircraft Carriers the Type 003A in the Jianang Shanghai Shipyard, and the first Chinese Nuclear Aircraft Carrier the Type 004, currently being constructed at the Dalian Shipyards.

The Type 03A is the sister ship to the Fujian Type 003 with the same dimensions and propulsion systems.
The Type 004 is even more ambitious and has been under construction since 2022 at a deliberately slower and methodical pace. However, the modular layout, like a jigsaw puzzle, has now been fully formed by the Binkov team in this video. The dimensions guestimations have been established and revealed by the Binkov team.

The Type 004, therefore, will be wider than the USS Gerald R Ford, by an estimated 4 metres. This would also mean that the length will, undoubtedly, be slightly longer as well. The tonnage will be at least 10,000tons heavier than the USS Ford Class, making the Type 004 the largest warship in military history.
The estimated completion of the Type 004 is expected in 2027, coinciding with the estimated completion date of the USS JF Kennedy Ford Class Aircraft Carrier. The questimated commission date for the Type 004 is 2031. Again slightly ahead of the estimated JFK commission date.
Due to the duality Aircraft Carrier program by the Chinese Aircaft Carrier Construction, it is almost certain that the Type 004 will have at least a sister Aircraft Carrier further on in time.
